Increase in Property Taxes = WY Business Council Strategic Target

We read with interest the May 8, 2019 CST article, Natrona County property owners raise concerns over tax increases; assessor blames predecessors

We are not certain if former Natrona County Assessors are to blame – however, we are certain that a 35% property tax and sales tax increase, and 35% lodging tax increase is EXACTLY what the Wyoming Business Council (WBC) has in mind for Wyoming taxpayers. The above screenshot is from page 24 of the Wyoming Business Council March 2019 Meeting Minutes.

Is it the WBC’s responsibility to focus on tax revenue?

“The Wyoming Business Council is the state of Wyoming’s economic development agency. The Business Council works with private businesses, state agencies, local governments, local economic development groups, partners and nonprofits to grow and diversify Wyoming’s economy, create jobs and enhance quality of life.” (Source – About Wyoming Business Council)

Clearly the WBC is completely off-the-rails from their mission. The WBC strategic plan for “Increasing Wyoming’s Prosperity” obviously refers to increasing revenue for state government and not increasing prosperity for Wyoming Citizens.

How does severely taxing Wyoming Citizens ‘grow and diversify the economy‘, ‘create jobs‘ or ‘enhance the quality of life‘?!

The only elected official accountable to Wyoming Citizens that serves on the Wyoming Business Council is Governor Gordon – while the Governor is the non-voting co-chairman of the board of directors, all board members are appointed by the WY Governor.  Any and all Wyoming Citizens that wants to voice any complaint regarding the WBC should respectfully contact Governor Gordon.

Additionally, the WBC will be meeting in Riverton next week on May 16, 2019.  Here we are one week out, and the location/time, agenda and meeting materials for this WBC meeting have not been posted yet – details for this meeting should be posted to this link when they finally get around to disclosing this necessary information for Wyoming Citizens.
